Friday Night Pizza


Friday nights in this house tend to be pizza nights. Tonight was no exception.

I’m not sure how easy it is to tell, but it’s a pretty good-sized piece of pizza!  Costco is the best.

I definitely had another piece.  Obviously.

Oh and we had a small salad too.  We’ve been bored with salad, but we haven’t had it in a while so it was nice to have today.

We had a really nice red wine also.  It was a blend and very mellow.  I’m not usually a big red wine fan, so I was happy to really enjoy this one.


And this is my husband’s plate.  He had a 4th piece.  Boys.

Oh, I also ate his crust.  I always eat his crust.  Shhh…


Today was a rest day (minus abs/push-ups and giving the girls a ballet type class today).  I’m running a 22 miler tomorrow so rest is my bff.  I’m meeting my daddy at the beach at 7:30 for it.  It’s my LAST long run before taper!  WOOHOO!!!!

Dinner With Friends

Tonight we had the pleasure of going to dinner with my bestie Steph and her boyfriend John.  We decided on BJ’s for their amazing pizza and pizookies.

I started with a glass of moscato, except they were out of wine glasses so they served it in an ale glass.  🙂

John was sprinkling salt on his napkin so it wouldn’t stick to the glass, so Steph decided to use pepper instead.  Totally logical.

Mat and I shared a caesar salad, and John ordered one also.  He tried to give Steph a bite, and this is what happened.

She doesn’t eat green things except broccoli and spinach when it’s cooked and on pizza or something.

We enjoyed pizza for dinner.  Steph had barbecue chicken, John had a combo, and we had sausage with roasted red peppers.


That’s Steph’s pizza.  Ours was eaten too fast.  😉

Perhaps one of the best things at BJ’s is the dessert.  They’re famous for their pizookies, which are fresh from the oven cookies topped with ice cream.


That was the party size pizookie, which is the size of a large pizza.

We destroyed it.

It was a fantastic meal and a wonderful time with good friends.  If we hadn’t been getting tired and if I didn’t have to run LONG in the morning, we could have easily stayed and kept chatting.  Good times!

Starbucks, Pizza, and Ice Cream. My Kind of Friday.

This morning, the cat decided to walk on me.

We’ve been letting Oakley sleep in our bed, and it’s usually fine.  Last night, however, she decided to move around which woke Mat up.  He turned over, which woke her up more.  She then started attacking his feet through the blankets.  At some point during all of that she decided to start walking on top of me which naturally woke me up.

Upon waking up, I realized I had to pee.  So I did.  When I came back to bed, she kept crawling on me.  I decided to ignore her because I was pretty tired.  A couple minutes later I felt/heard a THUD by my head.  She had jumped from who knows where onto the spot right between our heads.  Weirdo.

I think at that point I put her back at the foot of the bed, and dozed off a bit until Mat’s alarm went off at 5.  Since she went out with him I was able to sleep for another hour at that point.

It was honestly more funny than anything else.  She’s a sweetie so I can’t be mad.

But now on to the more exciting things of this post: coffee and food.


I was long overdue for Starbucks, so I more than made up for it with a venti java chip frappuccino (light and sugar free of course).


With it I had my usual cottage cheese and granola.  I generally use low-fat granola from Trader Joe’s, but when I made the grocerty list for Mat today I put vanilla almond granola.  It’s not as healthy, but it’s so darn good and I haven’t had it in ages.


Lunch was nothing special – apple and half a pb&j.  What can I say, I’m a creature of habit.

Today we celebrated a birthday in dance production.  Josh turned 16.  We had surprise cake and ice cream at the end of practice.


I actually didn’t have any cake, but I did have a little chocolate ice cream.  I can’t stay away from chocolate.  Ever.

After a massive Costco run this afternoon, we finally settled in to our usual Friday night pizza.  We’re both sick of salad right now, so we steamed zucchini instead.

That’s my plate before covering it in parmesan cheese, having seconds on zucchini (also covered in parmesan), and a second piece of pizza.  Covered in parmesan, obviously.  I also ate Mat’s crusts because I always do.  It’s a thing.  I’ll tell you about it sometime.

Oh and then after the pizza we had ice cream and girl scout cookies.  I think I have a problem.


I’m not running tomorrow morning.  (Insert gasp here).  But it’s because I’m running the Surf City Half Marathon
on Sunday!  And then after that Steph is coming over to eat junk food watch the Super Bowl with us.  Should be fun!

Pizza, Wine, Chocolate, and Motivation

Lately I’ve been struggling with running motivation. It’s largely due to my legs being in an almost constant state of fatigue. Two weeks ago I found that I was more motivated to run long when I had a new route planned. So, that’s what I’m doing tomorrow.

I decided to drive down to Newport Beach (it’s only about 15 minutes away, maybe less since I’m goi early) and run on the boardwalk/street. I’ll have to cover it a couple times to do the full 19 miles, but I’m hoping that the extreme change of scenery will make it at least a little easier.

Part of my renewed motivation came from reading this post. It’s so true – if you want something, then you gotta do what you gotta do.

Besides, no one is making me run this marathon. I chose to do it. Therefore I’m choosing to devote the time to train for it.

So there you go. 19 miles tomorrow at the beach.

We Really Like Pizza

Tonight’s dinner was leftover pizza from last Friday. Because we had pizza on vacation also, we’ve had pizza 4 times in the past 8 days.

We decided to mix things up by having steamed zucchini instead of salad. I love salad, but I’m getting tired of it. I topped the zucchini with Parmesan cheese like my mom did when I first tried zucchini and liked it. You’d never know it now, but I was a pretty picky eater as a child. I liked broccoli and peas, but I wouldn’t touch strawberries, any kind of melon, or salad.

I know right?

Anyhow, this morning I intended to get up around 6 and enjoy a quiet morning while also getting my body used to waking up early again since I go back to work on Monday (sad face). But, because I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t fall back asleep right away, when the alarm went off I sort of hit snooze a couple times and then turned it off thinking I’d get up in a minute. I woke up again an hour later. Oops.

I still managed to run some errands and do some laundry before my doctor appointment and taking my computer in. Fingers crossed they can get the data off my hard drive without costing me an arm and a leg! I can’t wait to get back to blogging from a real computer!

And now a cute picture. Oakley decided to help me watch tv this morning.

She’s a crazy kitty, but I really missed her while we were gone.

Alrighty…15 miles planned for tomorrow and it’s supposed to be 37 degrees at 6 am. This SoCal girl doesn’t understand that temperature! At least 15 will seem sort of easy compared to last week’s 17!

Pizza on Vacation

After a full day of wine tasting, we decided to get pizza for dinner. This time around we’re eating cheap but spending more on wine tasting. We had two separate 2 for 1 tastings today, but when you don’t have those coupons it’s usually $10-$12 each. Sometimes we share but often we get our own. 🙂

There’s a Domino’s pizza in town, and online coupons got us 2 large 2 topping pizzas, 16 Parmesan bread bites, and a salad to share for $32. We ate half the bread bites and pizza, so now all we need is another salad and we have another dinner. Yay saving money!

A Christmas Weekend in Photos
