The Last Long Run!!

Today’s Run

22.05 miles, 3:50:20, 10:27 pace

Yes.  My daddy and I ran 22 miles today.

We met at 15th street in Newport around 7:30 this morning.  While it’s much, MUCH easier  to run with a buddy, it’s still quite daunting to start running when you know you have 22 miles ahead of you.

We ran from 15th to the wedge (about 2.4ish miles) and stopped for the mandatory photo op.

I love how the pictures into the sun turn out.

We then turned toward Huntington as usual and ran until the Garmin read 13.8.  That would get us back to 15th street at 22 miles.  Actually it got us there a little before because we didn’t calculate the mileage exactly, but whatever.

Running in Huntington is nice.  We ran past dog beach – it was so fun to see all the doggies frolicking in the water!   I was imagining a little corgi with her short stumpy legs running in the water and it made me smile.  🙂

My dad started feeling a sharp pain where his shin meets his ankle with about 8 miles to go.  I was worried, and he was too, but it would go away after running for a bit.  He thinks it might be the beginning of a stress fracture, which obviously isn’t good.  Hopefully it isn’t bad so he can run the marathon without too much pain or issues.

At the turnaround point, I snapped a few more photos on my phone.

We kept trucking along, stopping for walk breaks every couple miles or so.  We were both hurting a bit, him more than me I think.  But, we’re in this for the experience and to finish it.  Speed doesn’t matter to us.

I had gels at miles 8 and 16 and tried to drink as much water as I could.  When I don’t stop for lights I forget to drink.  Not good.

We also stopped for the bathroom a couple times.  This is one of the key reasons to do long runs at the beach.  You have easy access to bathrooms and water fountains.  Makes things much easier and removes stress.

When the Garmin finally hit 22, I was very happy, as you can imagine.  More photos.

Naturally, I uploaded this picture to Instagram.

I got home, had a protein shake (protein powder and chocolate coconut water) and took a long hot shower.  It was glorious.

I then had a banana, overnight oats, and iced coffee with milk and Hershey’s.

And since then I’ve been sitting on the couch (like a boss) blogging and working on shower crafty things.  No pictures yet because the honorees need to be surprised!  Later I believe we’re going to Panera for dinner thanks to the Valentine’s gift card from my parents.  The bread bowl is calling my name!

What are your Saturday night plans?

P.S. Can you believe it’s already almost March?  Where does the time go?

The Husband’s Chicken Piccata

If you follow me on Instagram, you will have already seen what Mat made for dinner last night.

When we were first dating almost 5 years ago, Mat made me chicken piccata from scratch.  He says he made it once a year ago when we first moved in, but I don’t really remember it.  😦

It’s some amazing eats.  I’ll post the recipe later on!

We had some wine with it.

While I washed dishes Mat ran to Ralph’s to get more ice cream.  We were almost out and naturally Saturday nights are better with ice cream.

We dug in the freezer for my leftover chocolate birthday cake to have for dessert.

We also watched The Hangover 2 from Netflix which neither of us had seen.  HILARIOUS.

It was definitely a lovely way to spend a Saturday night after a long run morning.

A Squashy Day

Actually it was a half squash/half gourd day.

For lunch today I had leftover butternut squash skillet.  Omg delicious.  I was in heaven eating my lunch today.  Even though I had to scarf it down.  It didn’t matter.  Heaven, I tell you.  Heaven.

I probably had a much bigger lunch than necessary today because I stuffed that container full last night.  I had an apple too.  But in my defense, I’ve been thinking that I need to eat more.  In the smarter way, of course.  Not in the let’s go gorge on loads of chocolate every day way.  Though I wouldn’t be opposed to that either.

To be a good little girl and make up for the bigger than usual lunch I didn’t have a snack this afternoon.  I also just wasn’t very hungry since I’d eaten lunch later than usual.

Dinner was where the gourd came in.  Leftover birthday pumpkin pasta.

Mat took this picture for me as part of today’s @fitmixer Instagram challenge.  The topic was “your perspective” so he took a picture over my shoulder to show my perspective of sitting at the table.  Creative, no?

And yes, I regularly eat that much salad.  Don’t judge me.

Mat is a slave to his computer suddenly because his teammates in the class he’s currently taking are dumb and aren’t doing their part.  I’m hoping he can tear himself away soon so we can have leftover cake and watch tv and basically be slugs.  Then I want to sleep.

I know, so exciting.

In other news, you should go here and look for my side link “Kolbeck’s Motivational Ideas.”  It’s me!

On Air With Ryan

I used to listen to KIIS fm every morning.  Ryan Seacrest and Ellen K cracked me up, and the music was trendy.  Then, about a year ago, I switched over to Go Country in the morning.  I was tired of the trendy music.

Then recently I started listening to KIIS again.  Not for the music, but because the talk show parts of it are hilarious.  Ryan Seacrest, whatever your opinion of him, is pretty hysterical at times.

This morning, he announced that KIIS had set up an Instagram for On Air With Ryan Seacrest.  He prompted listeners to post a photo of their “morning face” along with @onairwithryan and #morningface.

I totally did it.  Here’s my picture:

Hilarious, right?  I thought so.  🙂

Work lately has been more taxing.  I’m not sure why.  This blog, @fitmixer’s photo of the day, and silly Instagram things like this are what keep my going (besides my amazing husband, of course  🙂 ).

What keeps you going throughout your day?

Dinner was leftover spaghetti from the other night.  And salad.  And garlic toast

And now it’s time for some couch and tv time.  Have a good Tuesday night!

The Morning from You Know Where

Today was not a good day.  At least it started off badly and the bad decided to continue for a while.  First, today was payday.  I know what you’re thinking – how is that bad?  Well, at our school we work at extra 3o minutes beyond the contracted time.  Therefore, we are compensated extra.  Makes sense, right?  We had this last year and on our paystub the extra money would appear as a separate line item, calculated based on our hourly rate (if you break down our salary).  This year, because the district switched us to an 11 month pay cycle from the original 10 month, we got a check in August.  The 30 minutes did not appear.  After asking around, it seemed that the extra was going to start in September and stay on the 10 month.  Odd, but ok.  Since health insurance and other deductions were staying on 10 month I didn’t really worry about it.

Enter today.  I was excited because I was going to see the extra money.  It was also going to help offset the health insurance deduction that we were charged (and are going to be reimbursed for next time).

And what happened?

No extra.

I was MAD.  I’d just spent forever dealing with the health insurance issue and now this?  What the heck is going on?  When these kinds of things happen, I want to get on the phone immediately and figure out what happened and know that it’s going to be fixed.  So, I called payroll at 6:45 am and left a message.

Long story short, they screwed up.  We’re supposed to get our extra money on the October paycheck.  This means that we’ll get paid for 2 paychecks worth of extra at the same time.  This is exciting, especially since it will happen at the same time that I’ll get reimbursed for insurance, but I hate that I have to wait a whole month for it when I was already waiting an extra month.

Ok so that’s one thing.  What else happened?

  • The software I use to create lessons decided it wasn’t going to open today.  During class.  I had to figure out a backup on the fly.  And couldn’t use the lesson I’d spent time making.
  • I totally forgot that there was an evacuation drill during 2nd period.  Until a 2nd period student mentioned it.

Apparently those were the only 3 things that happened, but it felt like a lot more.  I hate when that happens.

It wasn’t a total loss today though.  I told my students I was having a bad day and to be nice,  (I always do that because a lot of times they really are nicer) and then I had two 2nd period girls and a 3rd period girl come in during 4th period with a poster they had made me, all because I was having a bad day.

Isn’t that sweet?  I love how they even put “Yay You!” on the side with my name.  (I have a section of whiteboard called “Yay You!” where I write names of kids who volunteer a lot or do nice/helpful things).  And they learned from their 4th period teacher that my license plate is tiny dancer, and they put #1 runner.

Seriously, that just made my day.  I love nice kids!

I was not really in the mood to run today with dance production, but I knew I had to because I’d always told them that I would.  I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to break last week’s 7:50, but I knew I wanted to keep under 8 minutes.  Then this happened:

I KNOW!!! (Shouted like Monica on Friends).

And today’s Instagram @fitmixer photo of the day: flattering outfit:

I picked this picture from the Tchaikovsky concert because it’s one of my favorites.  I tend to gravitate toward tops that show off my arms and shoulders.  I don’t do a whole lot for them, but they’re still pretty toned.

And that’s all I got.  Which was a lot.  Oops.

How was your day?

Dance Practice

Today’s dance practice was awesome.  The kids were having so much fun working on their dance for back to school night, and it showed.  There was some tension during practice yesterday, but today?  Nothing!

The back to school night dance is random and fun.  I told the girls to be sassy and show me how much they love to dance, and they totally did.  I could feel the energy and excitement as they rehearsed.  It’s amazing!  I LOVE being a part of something so great!

They also are working on a dance battle to perform with ASB at the pep rally.  They rehearsed that a few times today too, and it was fantastic as well.  It’s another high-energy dance that I can tell they have a lot of fun with.  I can’t wait for the pep rally to see how well they’re going to do!

Today’s @fitmixer Instagram photo?  Time of workout:

Tomorrow’s?  Healthy carb.  I’m all about the carbs so this will be excellent!
