Hoarding

As I sit here blogging and simultaneously biking on the indoor bike, the hoarding show is on TLC.  It’s one of those shows that’s addicting in a really strange way.  I know hoarding is an actual addiction and disease, but for a somewhat clean freak like me, it’s astonishing.  The sad part is when the clutter results in actual dirt and mold and other health problems.

This morning we woke up at 7 to go to church.  It was a really nice service and the sermon once again hit home for me.  I love starting out my Sunday and my week at church.

We came home and Mat made eggs for breakfast.  I had mine with toast while he had them with oatmeal.

breakfast

I’m a lot better at eating normal quantities of eggs when it’s breakfast.  🙂

Today we picked buy Oakley a present for our 9th day of togetherness.

day 9

We needed to get more cat litter anyway, and go to Costco, so after breakfast and watching Thursday’s episode of Glee, we headed out.

I’ve wanted to get Oakley a stocking, so that’s what we got for her.  Yeah, it’s not a toy, but she likes my hair elastics better than toys anyway.

There’s a little pocket to put a picture of her too which is kinda fun.  🙂

Mat went off to the gym and I used the time to wrap his Christmas presents.  I figured at that point I should eat lunch, so I had half an apple sliced with peanut butter and the last little bit of pumpkin bread with pumpkin cream cheese.

I think I’ll make some more pumpkin bread later.  I just can’t get enough of the stuff!

24 Days of Togetherness

The other day, I was reading Carrots ‘n’ Cake and stumbled on this post about doing 24 days of togetherness with your significant other.  It’s like a personal advent calendar where you write down 24 activities to do together and pick one at random each day.  Tonight we wrote out our 24 activities.

24 days

We’re sort of cheating by making sure that we address the Christmas cards on time, but that’s ok.  I’m super excited to start tomorrow!

For dinner tonight we had eggs and oatmeal and wine.  Strange, but it worked.

And WordPress’s new photo uploader is pooping out on me, so the pictures are a fail.

Backing up to yesterday, this was my lunch at the field trip.  Grilled gruyere cheese and tomato soup.  YUM.

And leftover chicken for dinner once I finally got home and showered around 8:45 pm.

And with that, it’s time to veg out and get to bed on time.  I’ve got 8 miles planned for tomorrow, which is my last short long run.  In a couple months I’ll be doing 18+ on weekends and 8 miles every Wednesday!  Scary, but exciting!

Grease is the Word

I cancelled after school practice today since it was the day before the weeklong Thanksgiving break.  The kids were so upset about that (sarcasm: noted).  I came home and had a pumpkin cereal bar from Trader Joe’s and an unpictured fun size Snickers bar.  We will have leftover Halloween candy.

It was a really good bar.  It had the perfect amount of pumpkin and just the right amount of spice.

A few hours later, we watched last night’s episode of Glee that we DVRed while eating eggs and oatmeal.

Yes,that’s my plate of eggs slathered in ketchup and my ginormous bowl of oatmeal.  I eat a lot.

Glee’s version of Grease was SO FUN.  They did a really good job, I thought, of mimicking the original while still keeping true to the Glee characters.

And isn’t she the cutest Sandra Dee?  And isn’t he the greatest Danny Zuko?

Seriously.  I want to be her.  She’s adorable and sings amazingly.

But that new blonde Cheerio?  Ugh.  I don’t like her.

On a more serious note:

I’m trying to keep a positive attitude after yesterday’s frustration.  I got through work, I have an 8 mile run planned for the morning, and we’re going to Mat’s cousin’s wedding in the afternoon.  I have the next week off of work.  I’m planning to get myself off of Zzzquil since I will hopefully be more relaxed for the next several days and won’t be thinking (too much) about work.  Hopefully it goes well.

Comfort Food!

A week or two ago we had eggs and pumpkin oatmeal for dinner.  It was one of those random, on a whim dinners that’s oh so good.

Since it was raining today and FINALLY felt like fall here in SoCal (even though it’s supposed to be in the high 80s again on Sunday, on my birthday for goodness’ sake!), I was craving something homey and comforting.  I instantly thought of fall oatmeal and eggs.  I texted Mat my suggestion earlier today, and he wholeheartedly agreed.

It’s one of those nights where you have to make something random.  Tomorrow Mat will bring food from somewhere to the Homecoming game, Saturday we’re going to Kelly’s wedding, and Sunday Mat is making me yummy birthday dinner (and dessert!).  Tonight’s dinner also needed to be easy because I was at ballet until 8:30 and Mat was on his own.  Not that he can’t make complicated things, because it’s been proved multiple times over that he can, but it’s just easier on a Thursday night when you’re eating later to make something simple and that doesn’t require thought.

So easy and comforting it was.

Eggs with plenty of ketchup and a bit of hot sauce:

Oatmeal:

Then I decided to add chocolate chips to it  🙂

Tomorrow is going to be a long day.  Check out this schedule:

  • 6 am: arrive at school and help get dance kids ready
  • 8 am: be in gym and run through assembly
  • 9 am: first assembly
  • 10 am: second assembly
  • 11 am: back to class and teach 3rd period, have lunch, teach 4th period
  • 5th period prep: make copies that didn’t get done today
  • 6th period: chill with dance team in my classroom and kill time until 4:30
  • 4:45: be on bus and leave for stadium
  • 5:30/6: Mat arrives with FOOD!
  • 7 pm: Homecoming game starts – dance performs at halftime
  • 9:30 pm ish: get back on bus, get back to school, make sure all kids are picked up/have a way home
  • go home

WHEW.  I’m so happy I have a fabulous weekend ahead of me after this crazy week.  I can’t wait to see big sis Kelly get married!  I can’t wait to spend my birthday with my husband – my first married birthday!

Pre-Race Dinner

Scrambled eggs with veggies, sweet potato fries, and plenty of ketchup (which probably wasn’t the best idea, but I’m chugging water).

Amanda and Conor are staying at our place so it’s easy to get up at go.  Early wake up call!

Here’s to hoping I PR and MAYBE even break 2 hours!  It’s a lofty goal considering my previous times, but we’ll see!

Sunday Morning

We realized this morning that today was the first time since we moved here in January that we slept in and made pancakes for breakfast.  It’s one of those “cliche” things I’ve always wanted to do but we never can: Mat works every Saturday morning and we usually are up early for church on Sunday and then he has to work in the afternoon (and in between has to do homework or something).  Today we were going to go to church here in Irvine, but the service we like is at 8 am and since both of us really needed to catch up on some sleep, we decided to just sleep in instead.

And make pancakes.  Whole wheat buttermilk pancakes.  And eggs.  Mmmmm

I put peanut butter on one pancake, almond butter on another, and that lonely one in the picture got syrup poured all over it later.  On my eggs I did half fresh salsa and half ketchup/hot sauce.  Clearly I was indecisive this morning.  🙂

And of course I had coffee.  Goes without saying.

Soon I’m leaving to go hang out with Steph for the day.  We haven’t had girl time in forever and I haven’t seen her new apartment at all and she’s lived there since June.  I love 3-day weekends – so much more time to do the things you want to do!

Breakfast for Dinner

I swear, we’re obsessed with Friday night eggs lately.

Mmmmm…

I hit Starbucks this morning and had a venti skinny caramel macchiato.  It was necessary.

And a turkey bacon breakfast sandwich, but I inhaled that as I was helping a former student with her math.  She came back to ask me.  🙂

I’m thinking I’m going to get up at 5 again tomorrow to run.  Yes, it’s Saturday, but it’s just too hot otherwise.  This way, I can knock out at least half of my run before it starts getting too hot.  And, I’ll have more time to rest and then get ready for Nicole and Ryan to come over tomorrow night.  I have quizzes to grade too, and I’d really rather not leave them until later in the weekend.

I wouldn’t be nearly as likely to entertain the 5 am on Saturday thought if it wasn’t a 3-day weekend.

Whether I get up at 5 or 6, it’s still time for bed.  I’ve hardly sat down all day, even though it’s Friday!
