My Cat

Yesterday’s Run/Ballet

5.34 miles, 51:44, 9:41 pace

I was slower but actually kept a steadier pace, so that’s good.

1.5 hour ballet class

Missed ballet last week in favor of Valentine’s Day so it was good to be back.

I don’t have anything interesting to share from dinner last night (leftover salsa chicken tacos and cilantro lime rice with roasted squash) so we’ll just post some adorable pictures of Oakley.

She is so stinking cute.  I die.

Except for when she bites.  Which she did last night.  And actually drew blood.

It’s a good thing she’s so stinking cute or I’d actually be really mad.

Dancing Bollywood Style

The time has come where I finally have to start teaching myself the Bollywood dance that the kids are going to be doing for an assembly at the end of the year.  You might wonder why I have to start it now, and I have an answer: there’s still a regular sports assembly plus the big dance concert coming up before both of those.  So, we’re busy.

Busy, always busy.  I really do wish I could be busy with things that are more for me.  But then again, I imagine that’s how most of us feel.

This is the Jai Ho instructional video that our administrator wants me to use to teach the dance.  It’s actually a lot less complicated than I thought.  I honestly like this Jai Ho version better, but I think it would be too difficult to teach in the time that I have.

Don’t you just love the costumes though?

So much fun!

There’s a possibility that I’ll be dancing with them, but I haven’t decided yet.  I love performing and have always wanted to learn Bollywood, but I’m also a teacher.  The administrator in charge of the assembly said I could do it, but I’m still on the fence.  Luckily I still have time to decide!

And now for a question.

What do you do when you don’t feel appreciated at work?  I ask this in reference to students, not staff.  So, fellow teachers, advice?

Lately I’ve been missing performing again. I’m pretty sure it has something to do with my runs being less than stellar. I’ve been almost wishing I could go back to the days where I danced all the time, even though it meant getting home late and devoting every ounce of spare time to rehearsals.

Those were the days.

So was this: http://youtu.be/Sl9JA_Eubkw

I guess you could say I’m thinking about it, but I really don’t know yet what I’m doing.

I guess for starters, getting back to class this week would be good. 🙂

Kelly’s Wedding!

Last night we went to my Kappa big sis Kelly’s wedding.  I’ve been looking forward to her wedding almost as long as I was looking forward to my own, and her wedding was the one I’ve been most excited about other than my own.  I love getting to see my Kappa sisters and I love seeing such a dear friend so happy.

Her wedding was at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank.  It was a bit of a drive for us, but nothing compared to what Anne would have had to do coming from San Diego.  She drove up to us (picking up Becca on the way) and then we drove the last 50 miles up to Burbank.

Kelly had some lovely touches.  Her guestbook was giant wooden “K & K” and she had a wishing tree.  There was also a table of irises for all of us Kappas to wear in honor of our sisterhood with Kelly.

The venue was gorgeous.  Her colors were blue and purple and they worked beautifully together.

See the key?  Her wedding theme was “key to my heart” and it was on Kappa Founder’s Day.  One of Kappa’s symbols is the key, so it was definitely a special day for Kelly and for all of us Kappas there.

We were excited for the ceremony to start!

Kelly’s mom was escorted by Kelly’s brother.

Keith walked his mom down the aisle.  He doesn’t look too nervous, right?  🙂

Kelly’s bridesmaids wore long black dresses which were very classy.

An adorable ring bearer and flower girl!

And then it was time for the bride to walk down the aisle!

Isn’t that train gorgeous?  Love it.

The ceremony was very personal.  Kelly wrote most (or all?) of it herself after researching different types of ceremonies.  The whole thing was performed by Keith’s stepdad.

One of the sweet moments I happened to catch was the videographer, who is also a Kappa, trying to hold in her emotion while she was filming.

We then went to cocktail hour where we had delicious baked brie, bruschetta, crackers, and spinach dip.  Soon it was time to go inside for the reception.  The Kappas took the opportunity to grab a picture together.

My first place card as Melissa Kolbeck!

The centerpieces were beautiful.

The cake:

First dance as husband and wife:

At our table we had Jen and Manan, Jenn and Sandor, and Anne and Becca.

During the money dance all of us Kappas surrounded Kelly.

The flower girl joined us.  So cute!

And naturally, we did Oh Pat.  🙂

They were very polite to each other during the cake cutting.

And then it was time to really party!

It was an AMAZING wedding with lots of good friends.  Seeing Kelly so happy was the best.  Now they’re off to Hawaii for 10 days.  Have fun you guys!

Ballet Night

Once again, I was almost the only person in class tonight.  The other usual girl showed up at the last second – she comes from work.  It wasn’t quite as much of a butt kicker tonight even though it was semi-private.  I’m not sure why.  I think the teacher is getting frustrated and worried at how no one is really coming to tonight’s class.

Either way, it was still a good class and tomorrow is Friday.

Also good was the fact that Mat waited for me to get home before eating dinner.  🙂  Isn’t that an awesome husband?  I assumed he would eat ahead of time so he could get in bed at a decent hour – he has to work at 5 tomorrow.  When he told me he would wait I was very happy.  Makes going to ballet even better.  🙂

We finished off the boca burger enchiladas tonight, along with a salad dressed with a combo of ranch and salsa.  I’m telling you, the ranch/salsa combo is pretty darn amazing.

I’m also loving Greek yogurt as a substitution for sour cream.  It tastes the same, is lower in calories, and has nutritional value.  Triple win!

In other news, I ran the mile with the dance production girls today like every other Thursday so far.  And guess what?

Yep, that’s right.  7:50, baby!

Seriously on a Food Kick

Ballet kicked. my. butt. tonight.  But in that seriously awesome way.  I wore pointe shoes again for barre, and I honestly think that this is the strongest I’ve been (or at least felt) on pointe in a long time.  By the end of class though, my legs were shaking.  Hopefully they stay nice and loose tomorrow during my walk and don’t get too fatigued during practice.  If I do end up running on Saturday (which will mean I decided no to Nutcracker) I need them to be functioning.

Heck, even if I do decide to do Nutcracker I need them functioning.

Tonight’s dinner was leftovers from last night with a side salad and roasted Brussels sprouts:

I seriously have the best husband ever.  (I also have a problem overusing the word “seriously” tonight.  Seriously.  🙂 ).  He wrapped my burrito, made the salad and Brussels sprouts, and left the oven on so I could pop the burrito in the oven while I took a shower after ballet.  He has to work at 5 am so he went to bed shortly after I got home.  I don’t like this arrangement, but for now it’s what we have to do.  He has to get to bed at a decent hour and I really enjoy going to ballet, even once a week.  And since they made ballet start at 7 instead of 6:30, it’s even more icky in terms of schedules.

I’m still not sure about Nutcracker.  It’s driving me crazy.

Big Bang Theory reruns are happy.  So is the fact that tomorrow is Friday and I have this to use in the morning:

I see a venti something or other in my future!

Roasted Veggie and Black Bean Burritos

Today we made Roasted Veggie and Black Bean Burritos.  Well, technically Mat made them and I made the salad, but still.  They were GOOD!  We topped them with avocado, Greek yogurt, and fresh salsa.

The filling: roasted sweet potatoes, roasted red peppers, cilantro, lime juice, red onion, jalapeño, chili powder, cumin, and black beans.

My plate:

The salad is a bunch of veggies with romaine and spinach.  I added some shredded cheese for fun and some crushed tortilla chips for crunch (I’m also trying to get rid of them and putting them in a salad makes them healthy, right?) and dressed it with the last of the Catalina dressing and some picante sauce.  Salsa as salad dressing is brilliant, I must say.

My delicious mess of half-eaten burrito:

Seriously.  Go make this now.  It’s amazing.

In other news, we submitted our mortgage application and have sent in about half of the documents required.  Not bad for having only been 2 days since we heard from the lender.  There’s still a few things to track down, but it feels good to have made a start in the whole process.

In still more news, a couple of my dance production students found me on Instagram today.  Oh well.

I can still do pirouettes on pointe half-decently.  And high developpes on pointe, the “kicking” kind.  Which leads me to this:

I still don’t know what to do about Nutcracker.
