Just an Ordinary Day

Nothing special happened today.  I did my 5 am 5 mile run and immediately cuddled the kitty when I got back.  She can be such a snuggle kitty sometimes!

snuggle kittyWhen I got back from my run I also had a mini protein shake, got ready for work, went to work and had my usual cottage cheese, and taught my classes.

Lunch was my usual pb&j with an apple pear.  I also snacked on a mini Clif Bar between periods 2 and 3.  Now that I have lunch later (which I actually prefer) and am running more, I NEED mid-morning snacks!

Dance practice was successful and productive and fun.  That’s exactly what you need when you have a pep rally on Friday!

Dinner was leftover shrimp barley stuff and roasted Brussels sprouts.

That’s actually Mat’s plate because I doused mine in parmesan cheese to the point where you couldn’t see that actual food.  First world problems.

Was your day ordinary or out of the ordinary?

Drama Drama Drama

Remember when you were in high school and people started drama over NOTHING?  No?  Well I envy you.

Things like this make me wonder why the heck I willingly hang out with teenagers all day.  They feed on drama!  Basically, the cheer team thinks that my dance team is copying them (which we’re not, by the way), and have gone up to some dance kids about it.  I’ve talked with my dance kids about not doing anything to encourage the rumors and to just focus on what they’re supposed to do.  They’ve always been good about that in the past, so I hope that their annoyance won’t overpower their good sense.  We shall see.

I told them that drama doesn’t go away when you graduate from high school.  I’m sure they were thrilled to hear that.  But it’s true.  I think I’ve had more drama in the last year or two than I did in all of high school.  Oy.

For breakfast I had my obsession: cottage cheese and granola.  Yeah it’s boring, but it’s so freaking good.

Last night Oakley decided she wanted to be a human baby instead of a kitty baby.  We’re practicing for our niece on the cat?

My appetite has been crazy lately with the increased running.  It’s actually kinda fun.  I’m adding fuel to the fire by going to ballet tonight on top of the 5 mile run from this morning.  Whoops!  😀

What are you doing tonight?

Sunday Morning at Church

This morning we got ourselves up and out and to church.  We were able to give my parents a set of wedding pictures which I know my mom is happy about.  🙂

Church this morning was really good.  The sermon was exactly what I’ve been needing to hear lately, and I’m hoping that I can get myself back on track.

After church we stopped at Mat’s parents’ house to give them their copy of wedding pictures.  They just got back from a 2 week European vacation complete with Mediterranean cruise.  We got presents!

Pasta from Italy, saffron and herbes de provence from the Turkish spice market, apple tea, and lemoncello complete with a stopper.  Fantastic!!

When we got home, I was pretty hungry.  I’d munched on some frosted shredded wheat before we let for church but it wasn’t a meal.  I had one of my usuals: cottage cheese with Greek yogurt, granola, strawberries, and honey:

Mat made himself a giant omelet with jalapeños, spinach, and cheese and topped it with the last of the green chiles and some fresh salsa.

And now I’m on my own for the rest of the day because Mat is at work.  😦   On the bright side, we finally got our blu-ray player hooked up to the internet and signed up for a one month free trial of Netflix.  I’ve been prepping dinner in advance and watching Law and Order SVU reruns through Netflix while doing it.

The rest of the day (after finishing dishes and laundry) is going to consist of rest.  Lots of rest.  I need to have a good running week!

Newly Tenured

After school today, a bunch of teachers went to a restaurant called Karl Strauss to celebrate the newly tenured teachers at our school.  And guess what?  I’m one of them!  I enjoyed a glass of wine courtesy of Mr. Cush and shared the hummus and pita appetizer with Ms. Park.  I intended to leave around 5 so I could get home and have an evening, but wine on an empty stomach is not the best idea for driving, so I stayed longer to get some food in me.

I had some sautéed veggies for dinner along with my usual cottage cheese meal from the summer (cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, honey, granola, and strawberries).

Today was another good day at work, and I’m thrilled to be able to say that.  I have a lot more motivation and a lot less dread, which in turn helps the overall tiredness.  That being said, I’m hoping it’s nice and overcast tomorrow so I can attempt 14 miles, something I haven’t done since mid-June.  Hopefully I wake up as motivated as I felt today.

Busy weekend planned: picnic and outdoor concert of Tchaikovsky music with my parents, my sister, and her boyfriend, my mom’s church choir is having a reunion and they’re all singing at the service on Sunday, and Diana is coming over to hang out in the afternoon.  It should be good!

Second Day

I got up earlier than usual for a Friday so I could fit in a 3.5 mile walk rather then my usual 2 miles. It also helps that on staff development days I can get to work just before 8 instead of in the 7s. Less rushing=happy Melissa. 🙂

That also means I can eat breakfast before going and avoid the temptation of continental breakfast (i.e. bagels that always make me crash). I’m enjoying cottage cheese with strawberries and granola and iced coffee while catching up on the news and blogging.

I realized a minute ago that today is an actual full day back to work. I need to readjust my blogging schedule again. Please bear with me as I do this!

On another note, I’m trying to figure out how to get a short dance choreographed, taught, and rehearsed for the dance production girls. There’s an assembly on September 14th that I’m fairly certain they are performing in. I’m thinking of going to YouTube for inspiration. Thoughts?

Today I’m motivating myself to clean.  So far I’ve changed the sheets on the bed and I’m pretty proud of that accomplishment.  🙂

I walked 3.75 miles on the treadmill this morning, doing roughly the same incline intervals as last week: inclines the last 1/4 mile of the first mile, the last 1/2 mile of the second mile, and the last 3/4 of the third mile.  The treadmill decided to stop on me approaching the end of the third mile, so I also did the incline for the last 1/4 miles of the whole 3.75.

After my ab workout, weights, and extension stretching, I quickly showered and got the sheets changed.  I finally sat down to my all-too-often-eaten cottage cheese/Greek Yogurt/granola/honey/strawberries and iced coffee:

Side note: I love these placemats.  One of many gifts we got during our wedding festivities.

On the agenda today:

  • dust
  • vacuum
  • get boxes into storage
  • prep some of tomorrow’s meal for when Mindy and Joel come over
  • try to work on more stuff for school
  • get up the guts to call the cable company and try to negotiate a lower rate

Tomorrow I need to start thinking about packing for Vegas – after my run and hair appointment.  I can’t wait to see Cirque du Soleil’s “Love” again!

I woke up this morning to see a Facebook post from a friend about an earthquake.  I thought, “we had an earthquake?”  So I googled, and sure enough there was a 4.4 earthquake last night at 11:30, centered in Yorba Linda which is about 20 miles north-ish of where I live.  There were several small aftershocks afterward.

I slept through all of it.  It’s not the first time I’ve slept through an earthquake.  In a weird way I was sad.  I know, I know, it’s crazy, but when earthquakes are small and not dangerous, I almost think they’re fun.

Go ahead and call me a weirdo.  It’s ok.  🙂

I guess I got my wish though because about 20 minutes ago we had another one.  This one was a 4.5, also centered in Yorba Linda.  Then we got a teeny aftershock a couple minutes ago.  For me, since I’m about 20 miles away, it doesn’t feel big.  But a lot of family and friends are only 10ish miles from it so they’re feeling it worse.

My 5 mile run this morning was pretty good.  I got up at 6 to beat the heat.  It worked ok, I guess.  I got through all my ab work and arm weights, showered, made the bed, etc etc.

The same as usual: cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, honey, granola, and strawberries.  And ice coffee with milk and Hersheys.

Soon I’m off to the district office to get a new ID badge made.  I also need to call our cable company at some point to try and negotiate a lower monthly price.  They suck you in with this lovely rate for the first 6 months and then it goes up, for us by $40.  While the price of cable/internet/phone doesn’t make or break us, it would  still be nice to have that $40 back.  It tends to take me a while to make phone calls like that.  It’s highly likely I’ll end up putting it off until tomorrow…
