Super Commercial Game

Yesterday for the Super Bowl, Steph came over to hang out.  We were really interested in it for the commercials and the excuse to eat junk.  To us (as a friend put it), it’s the Super Commercial Game.  Even then we didn’t pay attention to every single commercial.  But it was still good times.

Mat made his guacamole and we also had salsa and cheddar/sour cream chips.  Delicious.

I also made chicken tenders, but I forgot to snap a picture.  Dang it!  I always realize when it’s way too late.

But it’s ok, because I made sure to take a picture of dessert.  I had some lava cookies in the freezer that I warmed up and topped with very Super Bowl appropriate ice cream.

I think we enjoyed the halftime show and the power outage the most.  It amused us.  🙂

Oakley wasn’t very interested in the game either and decided to plop on the floor in odd positions.

Thank you Steph for getting this picture when my phone decided it didn’t have enough storage space left.  🙂

And now it’s Monday again.  Honestly, where do the weekends go?

What did you do for the Super Bowl?

Errands Galore

After my 4.5 mile run this morning, which went ok, I enjoyed oatmeal with peanut butter and honey and an (unpictured) pear. And coffee, naturally. Also unpictured, apparently.

The cat threw up this morning and I was worried about her, but then later she was acting totally normal.

Yep. Totally normal.

I then set off to run a ton of errands. First was Smart & Final in search of the blue gloves for washing dishes that my mom likes. Figures they didn’t have them, but I still got gloves. Hopefully they work ok. I also got more sugar cubes since we were running low. At least I avoided a trip to another grocery store!

Then it was off to another store to do a return. With the store credit I got a ton of fun stuff. Look! 😀

Not the background stuff though. I’m excited to grow the herbs we got from Mat’s parents for Christmas and then chop them in the herb mill. And make homemade salad dressing. 🙂

Next was Costco, Target, and Petsmart. After that I went to a nutrition store to look for Cliff shot blocks or gels. They didn’t have them, but they said they would order them and I can come back next week. Until then I’ll try to find something else for this Saturday’s 17 miler. After my icky 16 miler last weekend, I knew I needed some sort of fuel on future long runs.

When I got home I needed a cookie. Obviously.

And I’m finally lounging and researching Hawaii trips. And watching TV. Vacation is wonderful. 🙂

I spent most of the day at Steph’s today.  It was lovely.  We chatted, watched Alice in Wonderland on Blu-Ray (old animated movies on Blu-Ray crack me up) and make chicken tacos with Mexican rice.

We also had lava cookies with ice cream, but I ate those too fast.

Yesterday we finally got to hang our “Love” photo collage.  I got a bunch of wedding pictures printed at Costco the other day and picked out some good ones for the frames.  There are wedding pictures EVERYWHERE in our living room and bedroom, but I figure we’re newlyweds so  who cares?

Isn’t that fun???!!!

I’m glad we forced ourselves to get them hung since we may not be here by this time next year.  The goal is to buy a house sometime this school year.  Hopefully we can start that process soon.

I’m so happy tomorrow is a holiday.  I’m trying to relish it since it’s the only one we get for a while now.  And I’m already tired which isn’t a good sign.  I might do an Insanity workout instead of run tomorrow deepening on what time I’m able to wake up and whether or not the sun is blazing.  I’m sort of in a running run because of the heat – kind of annoying.

I need to go to bed.  My eyelids are heavy.

Family Dinner

I have no pictures from today.  I have no posts yet today and only 1 quick one yesterday.  It’s because I’ve been running around like a crazy person.  I honestly don’t think I’ve sat down at all yet today, until a few minutes ago, unless of course you could dinner.

It wasn’t for bad reasons, it’s just that there was a lot going on today.  I woke up super early (5:00) to beat the heat for my run, and it was a good thing too because Mat never actually set his 4 am alarm last night.  When we woke up to my alarm at 5 we realized he was supposed to be at work.  Oops.  He called right away and told them what happened though so it doesn’t seem to be a big issue.  Plus it’s never happened before and obviously shouldn’t happen ever again.

After my run, I went to Target for a few things, came home, and set to work making homemade cookies n cream ice cream and homemade red velvet cake.  I washed and cut lettuce and veggies, dusted, vacuumed, etc etc.  I even managed to get one coat of new nail polish on my toenails.

Nicole and Ryan came over for dinner tonight and Mat made his pizza.  This time he made one of the usual with red peppers and sun-dried tomatoes and then make a Mexican one with salsa verde, diced green chiles, and refried beans.  It was really good!

The cake and ice cream were definitely a hit too.  I was quite happy about that.  🙂

It’s crazy how we’re all adults and married.  I still feel like a kid.  Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever feel fully like an adult.

Today Was a Fun One

This morning at church, the choir that my mom and aunt sang in while in high school (they both grew up in that church – it’s definitely been in our family!) had a reunion.  It started through Facebook (naturally) several months ago, and it was amazing how many former choir members showed up.  Some flew in, some drove in from far, they stayed at a nearby hotel, and they had a big reunion weekend.

The choir was called “Humneo” which is Greek for “sing praises.”  It started in 1971 and toured various areas of the country in a school bus over the next 10 years.  I knew it was a big deal for my mom and my aunt, but I never realized until today just how much it was a part of their lives.

The choir members not only went out for drinks at the hotel on Friday night and rehearsed on Saturday afternoon, but they also got to church early today to practice more.  One of the coolest things while listening to them sing, besides seeing how happy they all were, was realizing that the songs I sang when I was a little kid in the choir were from Humneo.  That really took me back and was just so unbelievably cool.

Some photos from this morning:

the women in the center wearing the black/white shirt directed the children’s choir when i was a kid

that’s my mom with the pastor who started the church back in 1960. his daughter and my mom were really close friends.

When I got home I wolfed down some cereal and finished my coffee before I finished straigtening up for Diana to come over.

At 1:00, my good friend and sorority sister Diana came over for some quality girl time.  We had some wine and quinoa salad for lunch:

this is not my portion, it’s the serving bowl.  i also forgot to take a picture of my wine. what can i say, when i’m having a good time with friends i sort of forget the pictures.

Diana and I had a fabulous time just hanging out and chatting.  I made chocolate lava cookies, but Diana was feeling up to dessert so she took hers to-go when she left around 8.  I love hanging out with Diana and wish I could do it more often.  Sometimes being an adult and having to work is so annoying!

I had a banana with almond butter for dinner, along with a lava cookie (with vanilla bean ice cream, Hershey’s, and a few extra chocolate chips):

And now I find myself NOT in bed at 10 pm on a Sunday night like I should be.  I’m afraid it’s going to be a rather tough week since I haven’t had a 5 day week with students since June.  I’m not used to needing that much energy!  Fortunately there’s a 3-day weekend to look forward to though!

Time to unwind for bed, and try not to think about the fact that Mat is still at work.  😦  Another reason I’m not a fan of Sunday nights.

Something New

You may notice that there are now ads (or more ads) on my blog.  I’ve been accepted by WordPress for their WordAds program.  Even though I’m not able to control the kinds of ads that are posted, this is a first step out of many steps I want to take toward bettering my blog.

Why are ads a good thing?  To be frank, it provides opportunities to earn money.  Also, being accepted into this WordPress program means that they felt my site was worthy enough – it’s still a beta program and not everyone has the chance to do it.  That alone is pretty cool.  🙂

I was nibbling as I was prepping dessert things for tomorrow’s dinner, so for lunch I had some carrots and cauliflower with hummus, a hard-boiled egg, and a Babybel light cheese.

Throughout the afternoon I worked on cleaning and laundry.  We recently bought new pillows so we can each have two good ones to sleep on, and the extra pillowcases came today so I wanted to get all that ready for sleeping tonight.  Is it weird i’m excited to go to bed because of that?

We made eggs for the third Friday in a row tonight.  My picture is kind of pathetic – I focused in on the eggs because I was texting my friend Steph to show her the ketchup.  She’s a ketchup fiend and I figured she’d be proud.  What happened instead?  She told me that even she doesn’t use that much.  What the heck?

With it I had 2 pieces of toast with Earth Balance and homemade jam.  I think we’ve finally almost finished Mat’s mom’s jam…that’s probably good because it’s been open a while but it’s also sad because her jam is AMAZING and she only makes it once a year.

We’ve been resisting these babies for nearly 2 weeks now:

Trader Joe’s chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches.  Mat got them for free after work 2 weeks ago on Sunday because it was someone’s last day and everyone got to pick a dessert.  We didn’t complain!  In fact, I’m amazed that they stayed in the freezer as long as they did – there’s only 4 in the box!

Another 4 am shift for Mat + early 10 mile run for me = early bedtime for both of us.  Good night!

Saturday Night

After getting home from the baby shower yesterday afternoon, evening came upon us rather quickly.  We decided to keep dinner easy and make scrambled eggs with veggies and toast (using Mat’s mom’s yummy homemade jam!).  And we had wine, but just a glass each.

sautéing the veggies: onions and bell peppers

adding the spinach

scramble it up!

with toast and homemade jam. mmmm…

I love breakfast for dinner.  The simplicity of it is just so lovely sometimes.  I had my eggs with ketchup (I love ketchup) and a little bit of hot sauce.  I actually had 2 pieces of toast, one with strawberry jam (shown) and the other with raspberry blackberry jam.  Both were excellent.

For dessert later on, we each had a bowl of strawberries with chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, and a few girl scout cookies from the freezer.  We’re slowly working through them.

All in all, it was a good Saturday.  🙂
