Poor Computer

I’m once again blogging from the iPad. My poor MacBook is sick. I took it to the Apple store today and they think it’s a hard drive thing. I have to take it to a place that can back up my data tomorrow (that will be fun to pay for) and then either go back to Apple for the actual repair or have the hard drive people do it. Fortunately, the whole thing will hopefully only cost around $300. Still not something I want to pay for as the Christmas bills hit, but it could be worse. I can live without a computer if I have to, but if I can fix it for a few hundred I want to do it.

Today was spent cleaning up Christmas and cleaning in general. It took a good 4 hours to do. But, now we love in a lovely clean apartment and it feels so good. Hopefully soon that will be upgraded to a house! (Still waiting to hear).

For dinner, we made crock pot spaghetti soup. I altered it a little by using orecchiette pasta instead of spaghetti and using a lot more than the called-for 4 oz, using carrots and a few red/yellow/orange bell pepper pieces instead of green, and omitting the celery. I added extra water because I was using extra pasta, and it came out super thick. The orecchiette pasta puffed up a LOT, so it looked more like sticky stew than soup, but it still tasted great.

We had salad with it, of course.

And now we’re going to finish last night’s cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory

and watch yet more Big Bang Theory on DVD. Best. Show. Ever.

Sometimes I Think I’m Crazy

After several days of not getting enough sleep, we went to CrossFit last night.  Then I woke up this morning (after finally getting a fairly normal night’s sleep FINALLY) and ran 8 miles.

I think I’m crazy.

I knew I was going to take it easy, and take it easy I did.  I just kept a nice steady pace and made it through the 8 miles in a reasonable amount of time.  I got home and stretched, foam rolled, had a protein shake, and did my usual cleaning.  I finally got around to eating a real meal around 1 pm.  I had my usual overnight oats and fruit with iced coffee on the side.

After eating I worked on a guest post and some other blog things.  Tonight we’re going to my in-laws house to celebrate my father in-law’s birthday.  And then after that?  We get to set the clocks back an hour and get extra sleep!  It’s seriously one of my favorite Saturdays of the entire year.  Is that weird?

Have a good Saturday everyone!

A Good Run!

This morning my alarm went off at 5.  I was a bit groggy when I woke up (who wouldn’t be) but surprisingly not as tired as when I wake up at the same time on a workday.  Weird.  I got myself ready for my run and had a graham cracker with peanut butter on it before I headed out.

I did a slightly different beginning today.  I Mat suggested it because it would add about a mile to my nearly 12 mile run without it feeling like I was coming right back home and having to go past again like I mentioned last night.  It must have worked.  I started the run off kind of slow and easy so I wouldn’t risk tiring out.  I never really push it on long runs except to make sure I run the whole thing and finish it, but I also wanted to make sure this morning that I didn’t push it too fast at the beginning without realizing it.

I am SO PROUD of myself for getting through the full 13 miles without feeling fatigued.  Sure, I got tired, but in the usual way.  It’s a tiny personal victory to have a good run after a bad one last Saturday.

After my run, I showered and then got the dusting and vacuuming done.  It’s really nice to put my leftover running high energy into cleaning right away – that way it’s done and I don’t have to worry about it on Sunday and can rest instead.  I still need to clean the kitchen and Mat needs to clean the bathroom, but the rest is done.  The laundry is already started too.

Breakfast was a sliced banana with strawberries and overnight oats.

In this overnight oats:

  • 3/4 cup oats
  • peanut butter
  • chocolate chips
  • milk mixed with protein powder
  • granola (added right before eating)

I also had iced coffee with milk and Hershey’s:

The plan for the rest of the afternoon is to wrap my aunt’s birthday gift and hang around the house for a while.  We’re going to dinner for her birthday tonight and hopefully will have some time beforehand to wander around the mall a bit like we used to when we lived at home.  Oh, nostalgia.  🙂  It’s shaping up to be a very lovely Saturday!

Cleaning

Today I’m motivating myself to clean.  So far I’ve changed the sheets on the bed and I’m pretty proud of that accomplishment.  🙂

I walked 3.75 miles on the treadmill this morning, doing roughly the same incline intervals as last week: inclines the last 1/4 mile of the first mile, the last 1/2 mile of the second mile, and the last 3/4 of the third mile.  The treadmill decided to stop on me approaching the end of the third mile, so I also did the incline for the last 1/4 miles of the whole 3.75.

After my ab workout, weights, and extension stretching, I quickly showered and got the sheets changed.  I finally sat down to my all-too-often-eaten cottage cheese/Greek Yogurt/granola/honey/strawberries and iced coffee:

Side note: I love these placemats.  One of many gifts we got during our wedding festivities.

On the agenda today:

  • dust
  • vacuum
  • get boxes into storage
  • prep some of tomorrow’s meal for when Mindy and Joel come over
  • try to work on more stuff for school
  • get up the guts to call the cable company and try to negotiate a lower rate

Tomorrow I need to start thinking about packing for Vegas – after my run and hair appointment.  I can’t wait to see Cirque du Soleil’s “Love” again!

Bored

Do you ever have one of those afternoons where you’re bored out of your mind but it doesn’t make sense why?  That’s me today.

After my run and intense cleaning earlier today, you would think I’d be thrilled to just sit on the couch and watch tv.  And yet, I felt restless.  I felt andy.  IT DIDN’T MAKE SENSE!

Maybe it’s partly because I’m waiting around to get ready for Mat’s birthday dinner.  Maybe it’s because I spent over half the day being super active and so then sitting down felt weird.  I don’t know.

All I know is I got bored.  And it was annoying.  NBC was and still is broadcasting women’s volleyball.  That’s all fine and good, but volleyball just doesn’t interest me much.  What happened to the swimming from earlier?  At least gymnastics starts tomorrow!

At least now it’s 5:00.  Not much more time to kill before our family dinner.  🙂

8 Miles and Cleaning

This morning I accomplished 8 miles.  This is the farthest distance I’ve done since before our wedding.  I’m happy to say that it was successful.  The sun was already out when I got up at 7, which was annoying, but I knew I was going to run anyway and just deal with it.  It’s not that I hate the sun, in fact I LOVE the sun, but running it the sun makes you much more tired much faster.

Fortunately, portions of my route were shaded so I got a break every now and then.  I also dumped some water on my head a couple of times.  It really is amazing how much that helps.

When I got back, after my shower, I started organizing and cleaning.  The moving clutter has since morphed into bridal shower/wedding clutter and has been driving me nuts.  Also, my mom has been slowly giving me bags of stuff from my room that I never took when I moved.  Since I have no idea what to do with it (2 reasons: limited space in the apartment and not really needing/wanting it) it’s sat there.  Today I forced myself to go through it.  That led into cleaning up other random clutter that’s been building up.  I’m still not satisfied with where everything got put away, but I really don’t know what else to do.

We need a house.  Plain and simple.  Luckily our down payment money is accessible in December (it’s a special account with a special interest rate and you can’t withdraw without penalty for a 2.5 years from when you open it) and we’re planning to start looking this fall. I’ve already browsed online quite a bit, and there are lots of options out there.  When they say now is the time to buy, they aren’t kidding!  There’s pretty big houses in nice areas for VERY reasonably prices (well, reasonably for Orange County).

Back to the cleaning.  A lot of stuff is now put away, the kitchen is clean including the stove (I took that bad boy apart and REALLY cleaned), and the living room is dusted.  When Mat is up from his nap, the bedroom can get dusted and the whole place vacuumed.  Ah, I can’t wait for EVERYTHING to be clean.  I love living in a clean place!  (Side note: I really do not understand those hoarders you see on TLC.  I mean, I know it’s an actual mental disease of some sort, but HOW DO YOU LIVE IN SUCH FILTH??  Just having too much dust or a little bit of clutter drives me crazy.)

Breakfast/Lunch

Because I was on such a cleaning spree, I never got around to eating anything post-run until almost noon.  I guess it was a combined breakfast/lunch.  I hadn’t had a pb&j in a long time, so I went with that, with a banana and a plum on the side.

sometimes a classic pb&j is just amazing

Now, I’m considering giving myself a home pedicure.  🙂

The Second Full Day Home

Today was the second full day we were back home at our apartment.  For me, it’s been almost weird to be home.  I was gone for almost a week leading up to our wedding (staying at my parent’s house), then was back for a few days as we got ready to leave for Fiji (but spent one of those days at my parent’s house opening presents and spending time with my aunt and uncle from New York), and then we were gone for almost 2 weeks.

The apartment was a mess when we got back on Sunday night.  All the wedding gifts were stacked on the floor, there was a TON of laundry to do (and still is), and we also have been suffering from jet lag.

Yesterday we ran errands (Target and Trader Joe’s) and began cleaning and organizing. We eventually pooped out.

Today we ran more errands (Social Security office and Bed Bath and Beyond) and continued cleaning and organizing.  We (mainly I) pooped out.

I also went for my first run this morning after being gone.  Just 3.5 miles, and it was rough.  I pushed through, but it was rough.  I’m praying tomorrow isn’t worse.

I have lots of posts to do in the next few days.  My habit has dwindled because we were gone, but I’m hoping to get back to it very soon.  The cleaning and organizing has definitely been eating up my time!  But, I NEED to get things straightened up.  Living in a mess causes way too much stress.

Breakfast

I had my usual cottage cheese and strawberries breakfast this morning.  It was fun because I used one of our new cereal bowls and our new silverware.

these bowls are huge! and you should totally check out http://www.mealsandmiles.com 🙂

Yes, I totally had “A Baby Story” on in the background.  Don’t ask.

my afternoon snack

all the loot we got with our gift cards

Dinner

For dinner we kept it simple and heated up some refried beans and tortillas and made burritos.  We paired it with a salad (I SO missed homemade salad) and half a sliced avocado.  Greek yogurt in place of sour cream, a little hot sauce, and salsa made it extra yummy.

simple but delicious

For dessert we shared a leftover piece of wedding cake from the freezer.  There’s still 2 big pieces left!

Oh.  You know how I mentioned the Social Security office?  Yep, that’s right, I got to start changing my name already!  Our marriage license came yesterday so now I can get all that taken care of.  In other good news, we’re going to Disneyland on Monday and have booked a Vegas getaway for next month.  Making up for the terrible honeymoon!  (That I still owe a massive post on).

Now that I have a second wind after being completely exhausted, I need to get ready for bed.  Gotta overcome the rest of the jet lag!
