Tryouts Day 2

This is going to be a short post because I’m rather tired.  I was at school until almost 6:30 teaching a short across the floor sequence to the girls who are trying out for dance production.  It was actually pretty fun, but it was long.  And it followed a long day of watching kids do projects.

Tomorrow is the actual tryout day.  I’m hoping it doesn’t go too long because it’s Friday and I’m usually pooped.

Lunch today was my standard: apple and 1/2 peanut butter and jelly.  I actually took a picture this time.

aren’t little apples cute?

Dinner was the last of the vegetarian ziti and a salad with a bowl of strawberries and chocolate for dessert.

The monthly church newsletter appeared in my inbox today.  I scrolled through it to get to the calendar, for this reason:

it’s hard to see, but on the 29th it says White/Kolbeck Wedding!

This seriously made my day.  Tomorrow is FINALLY June!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Countdown: 10 days of school and 29 days until our wedding

Catching Up/Getting Ahead

This morning has been good for catching up/getting ahead. I was pleased to find that I had copies of the geometry final already so I don’t have to use more paper to make them. I also found that I had the study guide for geometry handy. So, I went and made copies of the study guide for Algebra 2 and Geometry. And the Algebra 2 final is ready to be copied. Go me!

I’m having a munchy breakfast this morning: cereal. And coffee of course. Iced (coffee ice cubes are wonderful) with sugar.

Today is not as long as yesterday, but I’ll still be at school for a while for dance tryouts. Thank goodness for the kids doing a project so I don’t go insane. Then when I get home I think a little jacuzzi is in order. 🙂

Almost Friday!

A Glue Explosion

Today was a long day.  I got up at 5, ran 5 miles, showered and got ready for work.

I went to work and covered a 1st period class in which the kids were doing projects and there was a glue explosion.  Yes, a glue explosion.  A girl was trying to use a bottle of white glue and was squeezing the bottle to get the glue out but it wasn’t working.  Next thin you know there’s a squeal.  I look up and there’s glue on her desk.  No big deal, I thought.  Then my gaze traveled along the glue on her desk, to the floor, up to the table against the wall, up the whiteboard on the wall, and finally to the teacher’s calendar that was attached to the whiteboard.  Yes, glue everywhere.

I didn’t take a picture of this because it was in a classroom that wasn’t my own, but you can imagine the epicness of this glue explosion.

The kids were great and cleaned it all up with no complaining.  I have to say it was pretty amusing.  The teacher found out later and also seemed amused.

In other news, the first real day of dance production tryouts was today.  The girls started learning a short “hip hop” routine that they’ll continue practicing tomorrow, and I’ll be giving them a very short across the floor sequence that’s more ballet-ish.  Then on Friday we’ll have the actual tryouts.

I still have no idea if I’ll be able to teach dance next year.  It all depends on the master schedule and what they need me for.  Fingers crossed!

After all this long day stuff, I went to ballet with my sister.  She hadn’t taken a ballet class in about 4 years and did really well.  We haven’t taken a class together in probably just as long.  After class, she came over and had dinner with us (leftover ziti and barbecue ranch salad).  It was a nice change from the everyday.

And with that, my long day as come to an end, thankfully.  I woke up this morning and literally said, “I don’t wanna…”  Even though I’ll be at school late the next two days, at least they’re both shorter than today was!

Sometimes You Just Want to Go Somewhere Fancy

Sometimes it’s just fun to dress up.  The above photos are from Mindy’s wedding, my two bridal showers, our engagement night, and our engagement party.  Sometimes you just want to do your hair all nice and put on extra makeup and a pretty drew and just.  look.  cute.

Even though I always change into comfy lounge clothes pretty much immediately after getting home from work, and even though one of the things that I’ll love about teaching dance next year (if it works out) is being able to wear comfy clothes WHILE at work, sometimes I love being fancy.

As much as I love being comfortable, sometimes I find myself craving an occasion to go put on a dress, curl my hair, and go out.  I haven’t seen a ballet in a long time, and I love dressing up to do that.  We don’t often go to fancy dinners (maybe once a year or so) and I love doing that too.

I guess the biggest reason I don’t dress up very often is that generally occasions for which you dress up are expensive.  It requires saving. And since we’ve been in wedding and saving to buy a house mode lately, there’s not a whole lot of wiggle room.

But that will change a bit after the wedding, I hope.  Because I like being fancy sometimes.  It’s just fun.

Do you like being fancy and dressed up or are you a comfy clothes at all times kind of person?

My (Almost) Hubby

Today marks 1 month exactly until we say “I Do.”

This is the man I’m about to marry:

Yes.  You are seeing this correctly.  The man is playing a computer game.  With a headset.  Is he talking to his friend (and best man) Nate while playing, you ask?  Yes.  Yes he is.

I’m marrying a nerdy boy.  And totally happy with that.  I love the man.  Even though I don’t understand the computer game thing all the time, what I do understand is that he loves me for me, weird quirks and all.  I’m an exercise-obsessed, paranoid about getting fat, all around worrywart, and he continues to love me unconditionally and without question.

I’m one lucky girl.

Vegetarian Baked Ziti

Tonight’s dinner was a vegetarian version of the baked ziti my mom has made several times.  I sort of made it up as I went along based on what I remembered of her making it.  It turned out really yummy.

Vegetarian Baked Ziti

1 package penne (we used whole wheat)

1 1/2 jars spaghetti sauce (we used a whole jar of Trader Joe’s arrabiata sauce and about 1/2 a jar of regular marinara)

1 package grated mozzarella cheese, reserve about 1/2 cup

1 container ricotta cheese

1 package Trader Joe’s beef-less ground beef

grated parmesan

  1. Cook penne according to directions and drain
  2. Mix penne, sauce, cheeses, and ground beef together until combined.
  3. Add basil, oregano, and parmesan cheese to taste
  4. Pour mixture into 9×13 casserole dish and bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.
  5. Top with remaining mozzarella cheese and return to oven for 10-15 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  6. Top with additional parmesan cheese if desired and serve.

If I had to change one thing about this recipe, it would be to use a can of diced tomatoes instead of the 1/2 jar of marinara.  In fact, the only reason I used the marinara was that we didn’t have a can of diced tomatoes handy.  The marinara was for another recipe, but I won’t need the whole jar anyway so it worked out.  Overall, this was a definite winner.  And super easy!

We paired it with a salad of course.

We also have leftovers for 2 more dinners at least.  🙂

This week shouldn’t be too bad.  Even though I’ll be at school rather late (until 5:30) 3 days in a row for dance production tryouts, the week is only 4 days long and I’ll have my students doing projects.  We really are in the home stretch of the school year now.  I can’t wait for it to be done!
